Squire: A fighter who has been accepted as a student by a member of the Chivalry. The relationship varies a great deal depending on the personalities involved and on the customs of the Kingdom. Since it results from a purely personal arrangement, the word "squire" is not a title of rank. Some squires wear red belts in token of the association - a custom which is prevelant in some Kingdoms and relatively rare in others."  ~ The SCA Known World Handbook
